This EP represents a mix of projects by producer/songwriter Colin Swenson of Minneapolis. Its a clash between two styles.

The first is L5D, his cut-and-paste beat project, one that leans heavily on the aesthetics of both Boards of Canada, Madlib, El-P and Radiohead.

The other is Coin, a stripped down "guy with a guitar" thing that forgoes production tricks for raw songwriting and unobscured emotion. Feelings...if you remember those.

For this project, named dollarstore keyboard, both styles came together. The songs have beats. Certain parts are chopped up and stretched out. Found sounds drift in and out, but Colin's voice, lyrics and guitar playing remain at the forefront. Its a mix that creates some true classics, some even edging toward pure pop. It all works - on the emotional centers of your brain as well as those rhythm-addicted parts of your body.

To create the cover, we did a long exposure of a printed photo of Colin's face. We lit it in different ways, ripped it up, popped flashes on it, and then cropped the image. Included is a remix of a dollarstore keyboard track, mangled and decimated by Minneapolis' own glitch-freak Oceans In Space.
